Youth Leaders Gathering 2008

From November 21st – 23rd 2008, the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, through the Australian Catholic Youth Council and the Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life, hosted the National Youth Leaders Gathering (YLG08). This gathering brought together almost 350 youth leaders from Parishes, Diocese, Schools, Universities, Catholic Education Offices, Youth Movements and Religious Orders in Australia to identify a way forward after World Youth Day 2008.

The Gathering was convened to:

• listen to the experiences of WYD08.
• share what is happening currently in youth ministry in Australia.
• identify where we would like to go from here

The Gathering contained discussions and reflective processes which identified:

• 5 areas to build upon post WYD
• a series of strategies to nurture the Formation for Young People, Support for Youth Ministry and National Events in Australia into the future.

The outcomes from this Gathering are listed in the document ‘Moving Forward with Jesus – National Youth Ministry Strategies 2009 – 2011’ and will form the basis for the work of the Australian Catholic Youth Council and the Senior Youth Ministry Projects Officer over the coming three years.
