Glossary of terms as used in the resource database

Catholic |
A resource written by someone or published by a company that upholds the ethos of the Catholic Church (particularly the Roman Catholic Church) |

Christian |
Used in our database, Christian designates a resource that has not come from a Catholic author/publisher, but has a Christ centred focus. Christian resources may need to be checked to ensure their theology is in line with Catholic teaching and practice. |

Interfaith |
Interfaith designates a faith based resource from a religion that is neither Catholic or from the broader Christian spectrum, though it may include catholic/Christian content along with that from other faiths. |

Secular |
A resource that does not come from a faith background, but has pertinence to the field of catholic youth ministry |
|
Ecumenical |
A resource that has been developed by Catholics in conjunction with other Christian denominations |
|
Australian |
Aussie. This includes resources created by international artists currently residing long term in Australia. |
|
International |
Resources created overseas. |
|
Youth Ministry specific |
Resources that have youth ministry as a specific audience or target when they have been created. |
|
General |
A resource that was not created specifically for youth ministry, but has pertinence to the field of catholic youth ministry |

Individual Young Person |
Resources that can be handed to a young person for their personal development. |
|
Individual Youth Leader |
Youth Leaders are those who hold a position of leadership in a youth ministry setting, regardless of their age or experience. This can range from the 16 year old leader of a local parish youth group, to an employed youth ministry co-ordinator , to an Assistant Principal/Religious Education Co-ordinator in a school setting. This tag denotes resources that are for personal development of the leader, to assist in their understanding of young people or youth ministry, and are best used in personal reflection. |

Multiple Young People |
A resource that has content aimed to assist leaders with ideas for people between the ages of 13 and 30 (as defined by Anointed and Sent) that is best used in a group setting, such as classroom, retreat or youth group environment. |

Multiple Youth Leaders |
Resources targeted at multiple youth leaders are ones that could be easily adapted for training purposes, or for use in support or peer discussion groups with youth ministers/teachers. |

A CD can be either of music or of data (PowerPoint presentations, pictures, pdfs, word documents and the like) |

DVD |
A DVD generally contains video footage |

Portable Document Format - an item that can be opened using Adobe's "reader" |

Keynote Speaker |
A person who is capable and experienced in addressing large groups of people in an interesting, professional and educational manner. |

Tool |
A resource that doesn't really fit any other description. Cards, posters and the like are tools. |

Website |
A website is a collection of related web pages containing images, videos or other digital assets |
|
Multimedia |
Multimedia is media and content that uses a combination of different content forms. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms. |

Journal |
A print or online publication that is produced on a regular basis. In academic use, a journal refers to a serious, scholarly publication, most often peer-reviewed. (A non-scholarly magazine written for an educated audience about an industry or an area of professional activity is usually called a professional magazine) |

Magazine/ Magazine article |
A non-scholarly magazine written for an educated audience, that is not academic or peer reviewed (or article in such a publication) |

Gathering |
An official event where (generally) large numbers of people come together. |
|
Document/Statement |
A document or statement is generally written factual or informational material , often generated from an official source - eg the Vatican, the Bishops Conference. |

Music |
Generally, in the case of our database, albums by Christian artists. Music is recommended for accessibility for young people and for general youth ministry activities, not specifically endorsed for its theological content or suitability for Eucharistic liturgy. |

Bible Study |
A bible study is material produced for individual or small groups to break open a particular bible passage. |
|
Podcast |
A podcast is a series of digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and often downloaded through web syndication |
|
Program |
A series of sessions that could be used with young people in a face to face (gathered) or non gathered setting |
|
Research |
Diligent and systematic inquiry or investigation into a subject in order to discover or revise facts, theories, applications, etc. |
|
Blog |
a Web site containing the writer's or group of writers' own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other Web sites. |
|
Games/icebreakers |
Fun action based material that can be used with a group of young people to ease tension or illustrate a point. |
|
Theory |
Used n this case to differentiate from hands on youth ministry material, theory is the background and scaffolding that youth ministers use to support their planning, programs and intentional relationship building with young people. |

Youth group content |
Material that can be used in a youth group/youth ministry setting. |
|
Reflection |
A published consideration of a past situation or event, or material to encourage people to ponder spiritual or theological matters. |
|
Practical |
Material for "hands on" work with young people |
|
Drama |
Either a multimedia item with a skit or drama or the script for creating your own skit/drama scenes. |
|
Keynote Speaker |
A person who delivers the main address at a gathering. |
