Australian Catholic Youth Council
The Australian Catholic Youth Council (ACYC) was approved by the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference at its Plenary Meeting in May 2007. Members were selected by the Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life based on nominations from the Bishops, and the Council was formally established in June of that year.
ACYC members are young people and youth leaders experienced in youth ministry and knowledgeable of youth issues. They have been drawn from around Australia, from Broome on the west coast to Brisbane on the east coast.
The Council advises the Bishops on listening and responding to the needs of Australia’s young Catholics concerning their religious, spiritual, ethical, moral and justice issues, development of their faith and personal spirituality, and full participation in the life of the Church.
It develops processes and approaches to support these goals for young Catholics, assure the ongoing benefits of WYD08 for young people and the Church, and evangelise young people in the Australian community.
It has met frequently to develop advice for the Bishops to support the solid faith formation of young people, the development and networking of youth ministry in Australia and national events.
